Position Summary
AOM is looking for a bright, energetic Software Engineer to join the team developing custom metrology solutions that include computer modeling, interferometry, data processing, and statistical analysis. The Software Engineer is a technical expert, designer, developer, project manager, team member, and customer advocate, who provides leadership for the development, distribution, and support of AOM software tools and applications. The Software Engineer interfaces with other AOM scientists and engineers as well as our valued customers to understand and document requirements and use cases leading to robust, efficient, and scalable software tools and applications.
Essential Functions:
- Improve existing software tools by understanding metrology application and optical design processes, studying current production software solutions, and identifying opportunities to increase program efficiency and speed
- Develop new software solutions by studying information needs, conferring with users (internal and external), and studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes
- Investigate problem areas in software and processes
- Follow the software development lifecycle
- Improve operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures
- Protect operations by keeping information confidential
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
- Proficiency in Java or C++ required
- Proficiency in MATLAB or Python preferred
- Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Experience serving as technical lead throughout the full software development lifecycle, from conception, architecture definition, detailed design, scoping, planning, implementation, testing to documentation, delivery and maintenance is preferred
